Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Vaccine

Medical Diagnostic Associates' Infectious disease doctors located in Westfield, NJ offer consultations, immunizations and medications to help protect you from infectious disease. You can get vaccinated for HPV at MDA. Getting vaccinated for HPV reduces your risk of cervical cancer and HPV related throat and neck cancers.

Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is a common virus that is spread through sexual contact. In most cases HPV has no symptoms, so people are not aware that they have it. Persistent infection with HPV causes virtually all cancers of the cervix.

HPV Vaccine Recommendations

The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) has recommended that all women ages 11-26 and all men ages 11-21 receive the HPV vaccine to reduce the incidence of genital warts, HPV infections, cervical cancer and HPV related throat and neck cancers.

Why Vaccinate?

Cervical cancer is the second most common cause of cancer death in women, and it is responsible for taking the lives of 240,000 women worldwide. In the United States alone, 10 women die of cervical cancer every day.

Infection by genital HPV (human papillomavirus) is very common. At least half of people who are sexually active will contract the HPV virus at some point in their lives. Yet many will not know it and have no symptoms.
